Dr Kizza Besigye Visits the Ssese Islands On Presidential Campaign

As part of the 2016 presidential campaigns, FDC presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye made a visit to the Ssese islands visiting three landing sites situated on the Kalangala district which is the largest island on the archipelago. During his campaign visit to the Kitobo Landing site, he promised to he would see to it that the Fisheries industry gets a change in staff by vetting out the current corrupt ones and recruiting professional and trusted staff to ensure that the bad habit of illegal fishing is put to a stop.

Last month, the government of Uganda expelled most of the officers and marine policemen working for the fisheries department due to high cases of money extortion and illegal resale of seized young fish to the black market.

Dr Kizza Besigye and his campaigning group including Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago couldn’t visit most of the landing sites on Kalangala due the current bad weather and strong waves sweeping across the Ssese islands, however they had a chance to visit Kisaba & Namisoke landing site where they were received by a large gathering of locals ready to listen and ask the 2016 presidential candidate representing FDC (Forum for Demoratic Change ). He talked about how the government should redirect money to progammes that would help the local people on the islands pointing out a motorized boat which would act as a water ambulance for patients in need of immediate treatment off the island. He also talked about getting an extra ferry to transport people from Entebbe to the island since there’ only one operating now which leads to overcrowding and delays for people visiting lodges and hotels on Ssese islands.

The Ssese Islands are becoming one of the best destinations for tourist on holiday or couples on honeymoon and so government investing some money to improve services and welfare or people will not only attract foreign investors but also improve employment opportunities and living conditions of the people in the island.

So that being said and done, we look forward to the voting day on 18/02/2016 when we will decide who should represent Uganda till 2021.
