The Ssese islands is an archipelago of up to 84 islands all on Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake. Bugala island is the largest among all the islands with a large town called Kalangala. They are categorized into two groups namely the Koome group and Bugala group bisected by the Koome channel. Well known islands in clued Bukasa, Bugala, Koome, Bugaba, Banda, Funve among others. Over half the islands are home to Bantu speaking people known as the Basese who are closely related to the Basoga & Baganda tribes. The locals main occupation is fishing and canoe building with numerous fishing landing sites situated on the lake shores. Thousands of tourists and locals flood the Ssese islands each for a honeymoon, vacations, relaxation and business.
